Exterior house painting on a Winnipeg home by Merner's Painting & Decorating

    Exterior House Painting in Winnipeg

Winnipeg weather is hard on paint. Freeze-thaw cycles, prairie wind, and a short exterior season will find every shortcut in the prep work, so we don't take any. Wash, prep, prime, then paint. In that order, every time.

    What's included

    Pressure washing

Mildew, chalk, and dirt come off before anything else happens. Paint over grime fails early. We never do it.

    Scraping, sanding & caulking

Loose and failing paint removed, edges feathered, and joints and gaps caulked to keep water out.

    Priming where it counts

Bare wood, repairs, and stains spot-primed with the correct primer so the topcoat bonds and lasts.

    Every exterior surface

Siding, trim, fascia, soffits, front doors, shutters, and garage doors. One crew, one finish standard.

    Weather-rated paint systems

Cloverdale exterior paints built for prairie freeze-thaw and UV, applied at the right film thickness.

    Minor wood repair

Rotted trim and damaged boards repaired or replaced through our contracting service before paint goes on.

    Our process

    1. 01

      Wash

The whole exterior pressure-washed to strip mildew, chalk, and dirt, then allowed to dry fully.

    2. 02

      Prep

Scrape, sand, caulk, and repair. Bare wood and patched areas get spot-primed. This is where an exterior job is won or lost.

    3. 03

      Paint

Two coats of weather-rated exterior paint, sprayed and back-rolled or brushed where the surface calls for it.

    4. 04

      Walkthrough

We walk the full perimeter with you in daylight and touch up anything that needs it before final payment.

    Exterior Painting FAQ

The reliable exterior window is late May through September, when temperatures stay in range and surfaces can dry. We watch the forecast and only paint when conditions are right. A Manitoba winter is not an exterior painting season.

With proper prep and a quality acrylic system, expect seven to ten years in Winnipeg conditions. Freeze-thaw and skipped prep are why some paint jobs fail in two or three, which is exactly why we never skip it.

We fix it, not paint over it. Minor rot repair and trim replacement are part of our contracting services, so damaged wood gets replaced and primed before any paint goes on. You'll be told what we found and what it costs before we proceed.

Prairie storms and overnight temperature drops are a fact of life, so we build weather into the schedule and keep you informed. We won't paint wet or below-temp surfaces just to hit a date. A day's delay beats a failed finish.
